Welcome to the RootLinks Newsletter! 

RootLinks is an EU funded project, supported by the Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU), which brings together primary producers, industry actors, and policymakers to shape the future of Europe’s circular bio-based economy. At its core is the Working Group on Primary Producers (WGPP), established under the CBE JU and involving stakeholders from agriculture, forestry, and the blue economy. 

At the heart of the project lies a clear ambition: to empower primary producers as key players in sustainable bio-based value chains, through the co‑development of an Action Plan that combines sector‑specific actions with cross‑sectoral and horizontal measures ensuring their knowledge, needs, and perspectives actively drive innovation.

Following the Brussels meeting, on 26 March, part of the group visited ILVO (the Flanders Research Institute for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food), gaining first-hand insights into how research supports the bioeconomy. 

From optimizing primary production and analysing biomass components to developing value chains and assessing market opportunities, the visit highlighted how science and practice can come together to support primary producers in concrete ways.
