Enabling primary producers to thrive in the bioeconomy
For a more sustainable value chain

The project
Funded by the Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU), RootLinks provides primary producers with tools for awareness-raising, networking, cooperation, and capacity building. A key initiative is the Working Group on Primary Producers (WGPP), which unites sector representatives to co-create a shared Action Plan.
RootLinks connects and empowers primary producers in agriculture, forestry, and the blue economy, strengthening their role in Europe’s circular bio-based economy.

Overcoming barriers
Primary producers (PPs) often struggle to benefit fully from Europe’s bio-based opportunities, due to limited access to information and low awareness of bio-based opportunities.
CBE JU is committed to overcoming these barriers by fostering the active involvement of primary producers in the circular bioeconomy through its funding schemes and the innovative, sustainable solutions they help create.
Lack of communication and awareness about bio-based innovation opportunities: Primary Producers are not sufficiently informed or engaged.
Difficulty in actively participating in research and innovation initiatives: this lack of integration means primary producers miss out on newly developed bio-based solutions and value chains.
Structural barriers limit the involvement of primary producers: the small scale of some farms, the isolation of some rural areas, and the ageing of the rural population are all issues that RootLinks aims to address.

Linking Sectors for a Bio-based Future
RootLinks brings together the agriculture, forestry, and blue economy sectors – three essential sectors of the circular bio-based economy.
By fostering collaboration across these pillars, RootLinks drives innovation and sustainable growth, unlocking new opportunities for a resilient and circular future.
