ENABLING PRIMARY PRODUCERS TO THRIVE IN THE BIOECONOMY
Strengthening Roots, Creating Links
The RootLinks project
We strengthen the role of agriculture, forestry, and blue bioeconomy producers in Europe’s circular bio-based value chains, and we create links to new opportunities.
Funded by the European Union and supported by the Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU), RootLinks equips primary producers with tools for awareness-raising, networking, cooperation, and capacity building.
Context
From challenges to action
Across Europe, primary producers (PPs) are still not fully engaged in research, development, and innovation. Too often, they remain only partly integrated into the circular bio-based value chains.
The CBE JU is committed to changing this. RootLinks plays a central role by addressing the main obstacles holding PPs back from full participation. The value chains have the potential to deliver real benefits: recycling energy and nutrients, promoting sustainable production systems, creating new business models, and generating fresh revenue streams for rural areas.
Awareness and communication: we help PPs to gain better access to knowledge and become more actively involved in bioeconomy innovation.
Integration in value chains: we help connect PPs to circular bio-based markets, address financial and technological risks, and ensure benefits are shared.
Structural and regulatory barriers: we support PPs through sector desks, ambassadors, and cooperation, so that even small and remote actors can engage and benefit.
Putting RootLinks into practice
Sector groups
RootLinks brings together agriculture, forestry and blue bioeconomy – three essential sectors of the circular bio-based economy.
Our sectorial groups (Agrimakers, Foresters and Aquanatus) are the engine of collaboration among PPs: a space where knowledge is shared, solutions are co-created, and specific challenges are addressed together.
