On 10–11 June in Warsaw, the first meeting of the CBE JU Working Group on Primary Producers (WGPP) marked the beginning of the co-creation of the Action Plan which will integrate primary producers as active protagonists in the new circular bio-based value chains.

Hosted by the Polish EU Presidency, the meeting brought together the CBE JU, the Bio-based Industries Consortium (BIC), and representatives from the European Commission.

During this meeting, the co-creation of the Action Plan with primary producers from three key sectors (agriculture, forestry, and the blue bioeconomy) began. The aim of the plan is to strengthen their role within circular bio-based value chains, positioning them as active drivers of sustainable innovation.

In pursuing this overarching goal, RootLinks will support the WGPP’s efforts in creating and implementing the Action Plan, designing and facilitating both sector-specific and horizontal actions for primary producers.

An innovative element of this plan lies in its cross-sectoral approach, which fosters collaboration and integration among the three sectors of the primary production value chain to tackle common challenges, unlock shared opportunities, and build collective synergies.

Beyond uniting primary producers, RootLinks will also support them in establishing strong partnerships with the bio-based industry, ensuring that producers and businesses work hand in hand to accelerate the transition towards a sustainable bio-based economy.

As highlighted during the meeting, a truly effective and sustainable plan must place primary producers at the heart of its design and implementation, giving them the opportunity to shape measures according to their needs and contextual knowledge.
