The strategy strongly aligns with our mission to empower primary producers to drive circular bio-based value chains and benefit from new opportunities in the evolving European bioeconomy.
RootLinks joins the Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU) in welcoming the European Commission’s newly presented Strategic Framework for a Competitive and Sustainable EU Bioeconomy. The updated strategy sets a clear pathway for scaling Europe’s bio-based sector, strengthening regional value chains, and accelerating the shift away from fossil-based and imported materials.
By focusing on innovation, market creation, sustainable biomass supply, and international cooperation, the strategy reinforces the central role of biotechnology and biomanufacturing in Europe’s industrial resilience, areas where CBE JU has already demonstrated major impact. Since 2014, CBE JU and its predecessor have supported 220 projects, enabling over 100 new bio-based products, 250 new materials and ingredients, and 19 first-of-their-kind biorefineries that anchor new value chains in rural and coastal regions.
For RootLinks, the strategy strongly aligns with our mission. In the words of Martin Behrens (Fachagentur Nachwachsende Rohstoffe – FNR), RootLinks Coordinator:
“The updated strategy sharpens the focus on accelerating circular business models in bio-based value chains. It starts locally with biomass from farms, forests and the blue bioeconomy. Creating close value chains that turn by-products and waste into new resources strengthens the resilience and self-reliance of rural regions. RootLinks supports primary producers in taking an active role and benefiting from new business opportunities and innovations.”
As Europe moves toward full industrial deployment of the bioeconomy by 2040, RootLinks is committed to empowering primary producers and reinforcing their vital role at the heart of circular bio-based value chains.
