RootLinks presented at the Malta Seafood Industry Workshop

RootLinks contributed to the Workshop hosted by AquaBioTech Group, engaging stakeholders on innovation and sustainability in the seafood sector.

RootLinks was presented at the Second Malta Seafood Industry Workshop, hosted on 30 January 2026 by project partner AquaBioTech Group as part of the Malta Living Lab activities.

The workshop brought together governance representatives and aquaculture experts to address key challenges and innovation opportunities across Malta’s seafood supply chain. The event showcased three EU funded initiatives, including RootLinks, alongside FishEUTrust and EUFish SustainableGrowth.

RootLinks was presented to local stakeholders as a platform supporting collaboration, systems thinking, and action oriented engagement across the bioeconomy and aquatic sectors.

Structured breakout sessions focused on three priority themes:

  • Digital traceability, addressing supply chain gaps through tools, standards, and incentives
  • Sustainable circular practices, including bycatch valorisation and funding pathways
  • Consumer engagement, exploring campaigns, events, and awareness building approaches

The strong participation of governance stakeholders and technical experts in the event enabled productive discussions and the co creation of practical recommendations and pilot ideas.

This workshop represents an important occasion for RootLinks, contributing to ongoing dialogue on innovation, sustainability, and stakeholder engagement in the blue economy.

RootLinks at the Nordic Testbed Network Roadshow 2026

The Nordic Testbed Network Roadshow 2026 brought together key actors from across the Nordic–Baltic region to exchange knowledge on aquaculture innovation, pilot infrastructure, and future collaboration.

On May 26th, RootLinks was presented at the first Nordic Testbed Network Roadshow 2026, contributing to discussions on innovation, collaboration, and future development in the Nordic–Baltic blue economy.

The event, hosted by Klaipėda Science and Technology Park, brought together a diverse group of stakeholders, including researchers, technology providers, aquaculture companies, and innovation organisations. Participants explored a wide range of topics, including recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS), pilot and testing infrastructure, applied aquaculture research, and opportunities for cross-regional collaboration.

During the event, Freya Robinson (SPro) introduced the RootLinks Working Group activities, highlighting ongoing efforts and upcoming actions designed to support primary producers and strengthen regional collaboration within the blue economy. The presentation focused on RootLinks’ role as a platform for fostering knowledge exchange, systems thinking, and practical engagement across aquatic and bio-based sectors.

The Roadshow facilitated insightful discussions and hands-on exchanges between participants, helping to identify shared challenges and opportunities while building connections across the Nordic-Baltic innovation ecosystem.

RootLinks’ participation in the event represents another important step in promoting collaborative approaches to sustainability, innovation, and resilience in aquaculture and the wider bioeconomy.
