Join an online summer school exploring circular bioeconomy solutions for sustainable aquaculture in Europe.

Stakeholders across the aquaculture and blue bioeconomy sectors are invited to join the SAFE–AWARE–INNOAQUA Summer School 2026, an online series focused on circular and sustainable innovation in European aquaculture.

Organised by the European research projects SAFE (SmartAqua4FuturE), AWARE-EU and INNOAQUA, the summer school will disseminate research findings, practical case studies and technical insights to students, early-career researchers, scientists and industry professionals.

The programme consists of three free half-day online sessions taking place in June 2026, each exploring key themes related to circular bioeconomy approaches in aquaculture systems.

The first session, Innovations I (15 June, 14:00–17:15 CEST), will examine circular solutions and cross-sector synergies, covering topics such as freshwater aquaculture waste valorisation, insect-based inputs, water reuse strategies, food safety in aquaponic systems and regenerative bioeconomy examples.

The second session, Innovations II (22 June, 14:00–17:15 CEST), will explore circular inputs and integrated production models, including work on alternative feed ingredients, insect applications in aquaponics, sludge valorisation for algae production, biofertiliser generation from aquaculture by-products and SMART-IMTA systems supported by real-time monitoring.

The final session, Sustainability and Acceptability (26 June, 09:30–12:45 CEST), will explore enabling conditions for circular aquaculture.

Discussions will include sustainability assessment frameworks, EU policy barriers and opportunities, patent landscaping, financial and economic viability, and strategies for strengthening resilience in aquaculture value chains.

Bringing together expertise from multiple European projects, the summer school provides an opportunity to exchange knowledge, explore innovative practices, and engage with the latest developments shaping sustainable aquaculture in Europe.

Participation is free of charge, but pre-registration is required. Read more and register here.
