RootLinks partner S.Pro (Sustainable Projects) joined the 2nd EU Algae Awareness Summit on 16–17 October 2025 in Berlin.

Organized by EU4Algae with the European Commission, the Summit brought together experts, producers, and policymakers to discuss Europe’s growing algae sector.

During the event, which took place at the Axica Conference Centre, Konstantinos Madias, Communications Manager at s.Pro – sustainable projects GmbH, had the opportunity to share insights from the RootLinks project and engage with a wide range of stakeholders from across the blue bioeconomy.

“We had the opportunity to engage with many primary producers in the algae sector. The presentations, policy discussions, networking opportunities, and the exhibition space where many algae producers showcased their work allowed us to exchange information about the RootLinks project and particularly in relation to the Blue Sector Working Group,” explains Konstantinos. “Events like these are an excellent platform to build connections, raise awareness, and further integrate algae producers into Europe’s circular bioeconomy.”

The Summit offered participants the chance to explore real-life success stories from across the algae sector, take part in round tables and interactive sessions, and discover innovative algae products showcased in the exhibition area.
Through S.Pro’s participation in events like this, RootLinks continues to strengthen collaboration across the blue sector, promoting sustainable and circular solutions throughout Europe.

How Baltic Sea Farming Can Support Life and Livelihoods

Join the Baltic Blueprints Expo, an event that brings together stakeholders to showcase innovations and recent developments, connecting innovators, policymakers, and industry to find pathways forward that enable the sustainable use of Baltic Sea resources and create a Blueprint for the Baltic Sea.

The Baltic Sea is under severe pressure, as pollution, climate change, and overfishing threaten not only the organisms living there but also the jobs of coastal communities. For the past three years, Baltic MUPPETS, COOL BLUE and AlgaeFood have been driving regenerative ocean farming in the Baltic and North Seas, focusing on low-trophic cultivation, ecosystem restoration, local jobs, and community engagement.

  • Baltic MUPPETS promotes mussel farming in the Baltic Sea as a measure to tackle eutrophication, recycle nutrients and improve the water quality. Go to balticmuppets.eu to learn more.
  • COOL BLUE encourages community-led regenerative ocean farming in the Baltic Sea. The initiative focuses on lowtrophic cultivation, ecosystem restoration, and local job creation. Check out coolbluefuture.org.
  • AlgaeFood aims to put more regional seaweed on our plates. Through training courses, cooking events, and vocational training, people are taught to recognise seaweed as their daily bread. More info at algaefood.eu.

The Baltic Blueprints Expo marks the final chapter of these projects.

Agenda:

  • 09:00 – 12:00: Blueprint for the future of low-trophic aquaculture in the Baltic
  • 12:30 – 17:00: Exhibition with cooking and farming demonstrations
  • 17:00 – 19:00: Closing mingle with drinks

Participation is free of charge, but registration is required. Register here.
